Dublin Airport: Flights Disruption due to Volcanic Eruption

UPDATE May 2010 Flights suspended again due to Ash Cloud

Update 21st April: The Irish Aviation Authority confirmed that Irish airspace is now open all over Ireland. But full service by the airlines may take a number of days.

Update 20th April: Dublin Airport will remain closed for all inbound and outbound commercial flights until 1900 hours tonight.

Update 19th April: Irish Airspace restrictions extended to 1800 Monday 19th April.

Update 18th April: Irish airspace will remain closed until at least 1pm on Monday 19th and travel disruption is likely to continue for another week.

Update 16th April: Irish air restrictions have been lifted and Dublin Airport reopened. However, UK air space is still closed and many flights are still cancelled or delayed.

Thousands of flights have been cancelled after a massive cloud of ash from an Icelandic volcanic eruption in Iceland forced the closure of UK and Irish air spaces.

If you are travelling today from Dublin Airport, you are advised to contact your airline directly.

The Irish Aviation Authority has published the following statement on their website:

The Irish Aviation Authority based on advice from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre, will start to close sections of Irish airspace from 1200 today. This will result in the shutdown of operations at Dublin Airport.”
